Birth is a miracle. Life is a miracle. The fact that we create and carry humans in our bodies is indeed a miracle. Yes, I understand the science behind it all but it is still mind blowing that we are parasites, who live in fluids for 9 months (give or take), before we ever take a breath. Miraculous.
Those people who reach out and touch a pregnant belly may not just be rude, pushy, impulsive people. Perhaps there is something primal inside of all of us, something that goes back to when we first started all of this human-existence thing. It's possible that when a woman was pregnant the entire community would reach out to connect with that new life. That new member of the community.
It may be that there is an unseen energy that is pulling us all towards these new community members. They are constantly pulling from their mothers so it's conceivable that we offer up our own energy to assist in the process. You know that pregnant "glow"... Energy! And, yes, it may have a little something to do with blood vessels being pushed closer to the surface coupled with slightly more oily skin but, I like to think there's more to it than that. All of this to say, if I show up out of no where and touch your pregnant belly, do not be alarmed, do not be offended and, whatever you do, do not call the police. Thanks.
